Why there are two different cutoffs
Little League moved its determination date to August 31 so that a player's league age matches the season they finish, rather than the one they start. The travel organisations kept the older spring date. The result is a real overlap: a child born in June can be 11 for town ball and 12 for travel ball in the same calendar year.
This matters most at the edges. If your child's birthday falls between May 1 and August 31, check both numbers before you register — it is the most common reason a family ends up on the wrong roster.
